This is a term used when there is a swelling in the ovary
This could contain either clear fluid , mucinous fluid old blood or sebaceous fluid.
It could cause menstrual irregularities, pain in the abdomen or painful periods. It could occur at any age groups , are generally benign and at times could be malignant
The tests done to determine and help in diagnosis are
If the cyst is small, does not cause any symptoms it could be functional and does not merit any surgery. A repeat Sonography will be helpful.
But in most cases a surgery is indicated.
Laparoscopy is good in most cases but not in malignant cases
The cyst wall can be peeled on Laparoscopy and sent for testing.
